Rebecca Rae Barton | Brooklyn, New York

A recent graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art concentrating in printmaking and an Art History minor, Rebecca is an emerging artist working in lithography, drawing, and sculpture.

The current body of work is autobiographical, exploring the transience and tumultuousness of human relationships. Persons and situations are transformed into creatures pulled from a southern mythology - foxes, opossums, chickadees, and others. Conceptually, each animal represents specific persons and situations in her life, and as a whole, the works are reflections on specific narratives. Pulling inspiration from a mass of resources, ranging from music, literature, and cultural folklore, each piece is a struggle to comprehend her own relationships with intimacy, whether in a familial, romantic, or religious context.
